Junior Pre-School Program

The JR Preschool Program is designed to encourage two year olds to develop their social and emotional skills, their gross and fine motor abilities and their cognitive concepts, in preparation for pre-school and life in general.

By maintaining a small teacher ratio of 1:5 students, we are able to have the extra time with your child to help master self-help skills, toilet training and longer attention spans which will make the transition to pre-school easier and less disruptive.

Some of the Things Your Child Will Learn

We carefully plan stimulating, developmentally appropriate activities based on the children’s interests and encompass all the domains of development. Through play, your junior preschooler will practice sharing, cooperating, resolving conflicts and becoming independent.

By providing children with a variety of age appropriate books and our monthly trip to the Carlingwood Public Library for structured story time with the librarian, we encourage children to develop a love for early literacy.

In addition to the planned indoor activities, children enjoy a variety of outdoor play opportunities in our wonderful fenced in playground space. We also go on daily walks around the neighbourhood and frequent the parks in our area regularly with our pre-school Program.

We have a monthly music program that promotes the children’s appreciation and love for music.

Important Information About Our Program

We recommend that your frequently consult our information board located outside our classroom door. You will find our program plan, our daily schedule and the current newsletter. Children will have Communication Books detailing their days so that you can read each night at pick up and initial. Each child is provided with a cubby in which to put his/her belongings. We ask that you ensure your child has the following labeled items in his/her cubby at all time:

  • Weather appropriate outdoor clothing
  • A complete change of clothing in a labeled ziplock bag
  • Two pairs of footwear (one for outdoors and one for indoors)
  • A blanket for sleep time and soft sleep toy if needed

Food is provided by CCDC, and since we are a peanut free facility, please do not bring in any food from home.

We strongly encourage all parents to keep the lines of communication open; we will do the same and let you know how your child is doing. Please never hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
